Hello, my name is Renee Dick.
I’m the type of girlfriend that can make you feel confident and comfy while standing butt naked in a tanning tent, but it hasn’t always been that way…
I’m the oldest of 3, raised by a hard-ass working single mom. With that came a lot of responsibility, I had to take on a bigger role to help take care of the house, and my siblings. At the time it was just what I did, never thought twice. Now looking back, I am grateful for it. Those skills have taught me to work, to get shit done, and to be responsible. So, shout out to you Mom for hooking a sister up.
When I was in my early teens, I went through this extreme tom-boy stage, where I went hard into this rebellious hot mess of a style and attitude. I wore Dickies brand boy shorts and crop tops with stud bracelets, black eyeliner, and black hair to top it off. Although it was the most random style choice, I rocked it. Actually, I owned it! Ever since that stage I always committed to fashion, when I liked something, I went all in.
That is where my now husband, for reasons he only knows, saw me and said “I’m going to marry her,” and bless his heart because I was not cute. The feeling was mutual, I stalked him for months, and he finally pulled the trigger and asked me out, we have been best friends ever since.
I sucked at school, like really sucked at school. So, I knew that if I didn’t go to college right after I graduated it wasn’t going to happen. I started cosmetology school and went full time. I loved cosmetology school, mostly for my friends, but it was what I wanted to do.
I worked in a couple salons and loved every part of it. I’m a people-person and love talking, so it never felt like work. I enjoyed making people feel good not only by doing bomb ass blowouts, but also making them feel good for that hour they were there.
After I had my son, a hair stylist schedule wasn’t good for me. I started working for my girlfriend’s spray tan company and fell in love. Tanning was my jam! It was the best job for me, I was able to really excel, I mean I could make you feel confident, and comfy while standing butt naked in a tent while cold air shoots wet stuff on you, that is talent I tell ya.
I loved all of these jobs, it is what led me to who I am today, I always surrounded myself with confident strong women that I didn’t know at the time were my mentors. They gave me the tools I needed to be this confident, strong woman writing this. I always knew I was meant to be something, to make people laugh, to help them feel comfortable, it just took me a long time to figure it out.
Now it is my mission to take all of these skills I’ve learned and use them to help you find your inner star. To share and entertain while giving you a place to call home. So, grab your scrunchy, put your hair up, get your sweat pants, and let’s become besties.
And with that, we are officially girlfriends.
